Monday Evening, 12/14

I took a ride this afternoon up on the trails and got the gates open. I did not open the Cr 10 gate. I met up with Mark Plummer and we broke the trails on the Spruce Mtn side. I only did about 25 miles but I must say, everything on the Spruce side was pretty good. You need to go slow and maneuver around rocks and some mud but other than that it is way better than I thought. There is about 16” – 18” of snow on the ground and it is heavy wet snow that will harden up with the cold air later this week. The best thing for the trails right now is to get out and ride them. We need this snow to get packed down and become a good base when it freezes up later this week. The ground is soft in spots and the ice is still thin and the snow on top is not helping. I did not have any ice break while I rode over it with the sled but the groomer will bust through. Riding it will compress it and will end up being good for our trails. There were a couple of other people riding tonight but that is about it. Get out there and ride, take it slow and watch out for hazards…it is definitely a ride at your own risk, but there is good riding to be had.
