After Wednesday’s snow…
The trails are hard and fast. The are lots of washouts to jump up out of nowhere and get you so take it easy. There is a very solid ice base now under the 3-4 inches we got.
A few things to look out for (refer to the map for intersection numbers):
1) S84 from SR09S to SR18S is closed due to logging activity and a 3 foot deep mudhole that’s about 20 feet long. Do not attempt to ride this trail. I’m lucky i made it through only getting stuck 3 times.
2) C8A from SR09S to lake desolation remains closed due to land owner issues. We expect to reopen it for next year.
3) C8 and S87 from SR05C to SR06C are extremely muddy and rutted. The trails are open but ride at your own risk and get the car wash ready. We have not started grooming over there yet (alpine meadows area) and there are trees across the trail. Hopefully we’ll be able to whip it into shape over the weekend but i wouldn’t count on it. Continue riding S86 in the meantime. It’s in good shape.
4) There’s a giant water hole were a culvert was washed out on C8 near the sacandaga club intersection use caution as it keeps getting ice dammed and can be deep. We’ll be trying to fix it but be careful. It’s marked with Caution Ahead and Caution signs so if you see those slow down! We dropped a culvert in it and filled it with snow. There’s no sign of the giant water hole there anymore. Thanks George!
